Scheduling guide
How to schedule YouTube Shorts on desktop, iPhone and Android
Yes, you can schedule YouTube Shorts, and YouTube's own scheduler is free. You can set a time in YouTube Studio on a computer or in the YouTube app on your phone. Here are the steps for both, how to change a Short after scheduling it, the limits people run into, and when a separate scheduler is worth it.
01 / The short answer
You can schedule a YouTube Short to go public at a set date and time. YouTube treats any vertical video up to 3 minutes long as a Short, so you schedule it the same way as a regular video.
There are three ways to do it. YouTube Studio on a computer is the method YouTube's help center documents. The YouTube app on iPhone and Android has the same option under Visibility when you upload. A third-party scheduler connects to your channel through YouTube's official API, which helps when you post many Shorts, run several channels or post the same clip to TikTok as well.
02 / How to schedule a YouTube Short on desktop in YouTube Studio
1. Go to studio.youtube.com and sign in to the channel you want to post to.
2. Click Create, then Upload videos, and select your vertical video.
3. On the Details step, add a title and description and choose whether the video is made for kids. This choice is required.
4. Click Next through Video elements and Checks.
5. On the Visibility step, select Schedule. Pick the date, time and time zone you want the Short to go public.
6. Click Schedule. The Short stays private until that time, then becomes public automatically, even if your computer is off.
03 / How to schedule YouTube Shorts on your phone
In the YouTube app on iPhone or Android, tap Create (+), then Create a Short to record or Upload a video to pick one from your phone. Edit the Short and tap Next.
On the Add details screen, tap Visibility, choose Schedule, and set the date and time. Go back to Add details, check that the scheduled time appears under Visibility, then tap Upload Short.
YouTube's help center documents scheduling only for YouTube Studio on a computer, and the app's screens can change between versions. If you don't see Schedule, update the app or open studio.youtube.com in your phone's browser with the desktop site requested. Times in the app follow your phone's time zone, so convert first if you are posting for viewers somewhere else.
04 / How to change or cancel a scheduled Short
Open YouTube Studio, go to Content and then the Shorts tab, and open the scheduled Short. Under Visibility, keep it private and pick a new date and time under Schedule. To publish it straight away, choose Public instead and save.
To cancel it, set the visibility to Private without a schedule, or delete the Short.
You can change the title, description and other details before the Short goes live. You cannot replace the video file itself. To change the edit, the music or the length, delete the scheduled Short and upload the new version.
05 / The limits of YouTube's own scheduler
YouTube's scheduler is free and works for one channel and a few Shorts at a time. These are the limits that tend to matter.
| Limit | What it means |
|---|---|
| How far ahead | YouTube does not publish a maximum. Several scheduling guides report about a year. |
| One Short at a time | Each Short goes through its own upload and Visibility step. Studio has no calendar for planning a batch. |
| Daily upload limit | YouTube limits how many videos a channel can upload each day across desktop, mobile and the API. It does not publish the exact number. |
| Date shown to viewers | The date on the watch page is based on Pacific Time, so a Short scheduled just after midnight in Asia or Europe can show the previous day. |
| Community Guidelines strike | A scheduled video won't publish during a strike's penalty period. It is set to private and you have to schedule it again afterwards. |
| YouTube only | Nothing goes to TikTok or LinkedIn, and each channel is scheduled separately. |
06 / Does scheduling YouTube Shorts affect views?
YouTube has not said that it treats scheduled Shorts differently. A scheduled Short is a private video that YouTube makes public at the time you set, which is the same thing that happens when you click Publish. We have not seen data showing a difference either.
What scheduling changes is when the Short goes live. If your viewers are online then, the Short can get its first views sooner. To find that time, open YouTube Studio, go to Analytics, then Audience, and check the When your viewers are on YouTube report. Posting on a regular schedule also makes it easier to compare one Short with the next.
07 / How to schedule YouTube Shorts in bulk
YouTube Studio schedules one upload at a time. To plan a week or a month of Shorts in one sitting, use a scheduler that publishes through YouTube's API. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Later, Publer and RecurPost all support YouTube Shorts, and so does Scribix.
Some schedulers upload the video to YouTube as a private video with a publish time. Others keep the video and upload it when the time comes. Either way, the uploads count toward your channel's daily upload limit, and you need to connect the channel with your Google account.
If you post the same clips on TikTok, check that the scheduler supports TikTok's own rules too.
08 / Schedule Shorts cut from long videos with Scribix
Scribix is built for Shorts that start as longer videos: podcasts, interviews, lessons, webinars and streams. Upload the long video, review the clips Scribix finds, adjust the cut, captions and 9:16 framing, then schedule the finished clips. You can also schedule an MP4 you edited elsewhere, up to 1 GiB and 10 minutes.
In the post composer, choose one or more YouTube channels plus any TikTok and LinkedIn accounts, and write a separate YouTube title and caption. Then set the YouTube visibility and whether the video is made for kids, and pick a time from 5 minutes to 365 days ahead. A vertical clip up to 3 minutes is published as a Short.
Scribix keeps the video until the scheduled time and uploads it then. That means the Short goes live once YouTube has processed it, which can be a few minutes after the time you set. Until then, you can change the time, caption, YouTube title, visibility and audience setting from the calendar, or cancel the post. To change the video or the accounts, cancel the post and schedule it again.
Publishing and scheduling are included in Lite ($12 a month, 2 connected accounts), Starter ($29 a month, 6 accounts) and Pro (18 accounts). The Free plan lets you try AI clipping and download clips but not publish.
09 / YouTube Studio or Scribix?
Use YouTube Studio when you already have a finished Short, post to one channel and schedule a few at a time. Use Scribix when your Shorts come from long videos, you plan a batch on a calendar, or the same clip also goes to TikTok and LinkedIn.
| YouTube Studio | Scribix | |
|---|---|---|
| How far ahead | No published maximum | 5 minutes to 365 days |
| Planning view | One upload at a time | Calendar of all scheduled posts |
| Change a scheduled Short | Edit details; re-upload to change the video | Edit time, caption, title and YouTube settings; cancel to change the video |
| Platforms | YouTube | YouTube, TikTok and LinkedIn in one submit |
| Starting point | A finished video | A long video or a finished MP4 |
| Price | Free | Lite from $12 a month |
10 / Check these before you schedule
A scheduled Short goes live while you are not watching, and the video itself can't be changed afterwards. Check these first.
11 / Questions people ask
Short answers to the questions that come up most when scheduling YouTube Shorts.
Can you schedule YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Choose Schedule on the Visibility step in YouTube Studio, or under Visibility on the Add details screen in the YouTube app, then pick a date and time. YouTube makes the Short public at that time.
Can you schedule YouTube Shorts on mobile?
Yes, in the YouTube app on iPhone and Android: tap Visibility on the Add details screen and choose Schedule. If the option is missing, update the app or use studio.youtube.com in your phone's browser with the desktop site requested.
How far in advance can you schedule YouTube Shorts?
YouTube does not publish a maximum, and several scheduling guides report about a year. Scribix accepts times from 5 minutes to 365 days ahead.
How many YouTube Shorts can you schedule at once?
YouTube does not set a separate cap on scheduled Shorts, but every Short counts toward the channel's daily upload limit, and Studio schedules them one upload at a time. A scheduler lets you plan many in one sitting.
Does scheduling YouTube Shorts affect views?
YouTube has not said that it does, and a scheduled Short goes public the same way as one you publish by hand. Timing matters more: schedule for when your viewers are online, which YouTube Analytics shows under Audience.
Should I schedule YouTube Shorts or post them right away?
Schedule them when the best time to post is not a time you are free, or when you want a steady posting rhythm. Post right away when the Short depends on something happening now.
Can you change the music on a scheduled Short?
Not without uploading again. YouTube does not let you replace the video file, so delete the scheduled Short and upload the version with the new audio.
Can you schedule YouTube Shorts with Hootsuite or Sprout Social?
Yes. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Later, Publer and RecurPost all support YouTube Shorts. Scribix does too, and it can also cut the Shorts from your long videos.
Is there a free YouTube Shorts scheduler?
Yes. YouTube Studio and the YouTube app schedule Shorts for free. Scribix's Free plan includes AI clipping and downloads; scheduling and publishing start with Lite at $12 a month.
Next step: Make and review a podcast clip with Scribix.
