How it works

Three steps to a better title

  1. 01

    Describe the video

Write one or two sentences about what viewers will see or learn. Specific details, such as the product, place or result, give better titles than a single keyword.

  2. 02

    Choose format and tone

Long video titles lead with the search phrase. Shorts titles are shorter and more direct. Pick a tone or keep the mix.

  3. 03

    Copy and make it yours

You get 10 ideas with character counts. Copy the closest one and adjust the wording to your own voice.

Title tips

How to write a YouTube title people click

A generator gives you options, but the final choice is yours. These habits help you pick and polish the right one.

  1. 01

    Put the search phrase first

Viewers scan titles quickly, and search results bold the words that match their query. If people would search for your topic as "budget podcast microphone", put that phrase near the start rather than after a long setup. Use the words your audience uses, not internal jargon or a clever pun that nobody types into a search box.

  2. 02

Make the first 70 characters count

YouTube allows up to 100 characters, but search results, suggested videos and mobile layouts often cut titles off earlier. Keep the core promise of the video within roughly the first 70 characters, and use any remaining space for useful detail, such as the year, the model name or who the video is for.

  3. 03

Let the title and thumbnail do different jobs

The thumbnail is seen first, so it should carry the emotion or the visual hook. The title then explains what the video is about. Repeating the same words in both wastes space. If the thumbnail shows a shocked face next to a broken microphone, the title can say which microphones were tested and what you found.

  4. 04

Promise only what the video delivers

A dramatic title can win a click, but viewers who feel misled leave early, and that tells YouTube the video did not match the promise. Write the title after you know what the video actually shows. Use real numbers from the video, and avoid words like "shocking" or "secret" unless the content backs them up.

  5. 05

Keep Shorts titles short and direct

In the Shorts feed, people watch the video before they read the title, so the title works more like a caption. Short, plain phrases that name the topic or the moment work well. Leave detailed context for long videos, and add hashtags in the description rather than filling the title with them.

Get titles written from what is actually said

This free tool works from your description. Scribix can also turn a long video into vertical clips and write titles and post copy for each clip from its transcript, so every suggestion matches what the speaker says.

Clip titles and post copy are part of paid plans. See pricing ↗

Find the clips

Upload a long video and review the moments Scribix suggests as vertical clips.

Titles from the transcript

Title ideas are written from the clip's own spoken words, not from a guess about the topic.

Post copy and tags

Each clip also gets a short post caption and tags that you can edit before publishing.

FAQ

Questions about the title generator

Is the YouTube title generator free?

Yes. Sign in with Google and you can generate 5 sets of titles a day for free. Each set uses one YouTube import, the same allowance as the YouTube transcript tool. Paid plans include 100 or more YouTube imports a month.

How many titles do I get each time?

Each set gives you up to 10 title ideas with a character count for each. Generate another set if none of them fits.

How long should a YouTube title be?

YouTube allows up to 100 characters. Many places that show your video cut titles off earlier, so keep the main idea within about 70 characters. The generator flags any idea longer than that.

Can it write titles in other languages?

Yes. Titles are written in the language you use to describe the video, so a description in Spanish or Japanese gets Spanish or Japanese titles.

Are Shorts titles different?

Yes. Choose the Shorts format to get shorter, more direct titles without hashtags. In the Shorts feed the video plays first, so the title works more like a caption.

Can it write titles from the video itself?

This free tool uses your description only. If you upload a long video to Scribix and turn it into clips, paid plans can write titles and post copy for each clip from its transcript.
